A new patch for Rise of the Tomb Raider has just been released with more fixes and enhancements. This is the seventh PC. Rise of the Tomb Raider patched to support DirectX 12. Rise of the Tomb Raider received a new patch on PC a few days ago, the patch brought a plethora of improvements and fixes as well as new graphical options. However, the patch also added some additional stuff that was uncovered up until now. According to a Reddit user, the latest patch also brings some of the DirectX 12 files. Could it be that.
“Rise of the Tomb Raider” has received it’s seventh update for Steam and Windows users with support for multi-GPU support to the game’s DirectX 12 renderer, while giving some attention to 3D setup and multi-monitor setups. With this, the Windows Store version of the game gets vertical-sync toggle. The game got a patch in March to add a DirectX 12 backend to the game, however, the DirectX 11 codepath gave alot better performance, even on the AMD GPUs. This update is expected to resolve that issue hopefully. The release notes call for support on both AMD and Nvidia GPUs. However though AMD cards from GCN 1.1 and later are supported, Nvidia users will need a rather newly released Pascal GPU. Read the game description below.

Earlier today, Microsoft released a new set of screenshots for Rise of the Tomb Raider. According to the company, these were from the Windows 10 version of the game. And while this is a hint at the upcoming DX12 patch that has been rumoured for a while, Microsoft went one step further and confirmed that Rise of the Tomb Raider was running in DX12 at its Xbox Showcase Media Event.
As Microsoft confirmed:
“DirectX 12 Showcase: Rise of the Tomb Raider, Ashes of the Singularity, King of Wushu – Square Enix, Snail, and Stardock showcased their latest DirectX 12 enhancements for Rise of the Tomb Raider, King of Wushu, and Ashes of the Singularity on Origin PCs, iBUYPOWER Revolt 2, and Maingear PCs. Ashes of the Singularity is taking advantage the DirectX 12 multi-adapter technology, allowing PCs to use multiple GPUs, even from different manufacturers. Rise of the Tomb Raider was playable for the first time at the Xbox Spring Showcase running DirectX 12.”
Nixxes and Crystal Dynamics have not stated anything yet about this DX12 patch but our guess is that it will be coming really soon. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not reveal any additional information about it, so we don’t know whether this DX12 patch will offer a performance boost or whether it will feature NVIDIA’s VXAO tech.
